Frequently Asked Questions
- Who Should Register for Project Audience? Leaders of organizations that create, operate or are interested in community on-line events calendars and arts portals and/or organizations that are committed to engaging in a serious discussion in how to advance audience development in the field, including leadership of individual arts and cultural companies interested in contributing to a community-level discussion.
- What Type of Organizations Should be Involved? Project Audience seeks participants from arts councils, service organizations, ad-hoc coalitions, community foundations, business alliances or other groups who share the mission (or function) of raising visibility of their local or regional arts and cultural sector and increasing public participation. We're especially interested in involving organizations of every genre, size, maturity, arts discipline and geography.
- Our Local/Regional Audience Development Initiative Does Not Involve an On-line Events Calendar or Portal. Can We Still Participate in Project Audience? YES! Project Audience is definitely focusing on strategies that lead to technological innovation, but there's opportunity for dialogue on a broad range of audience development initiatives and opportunities.
- What DOESN'T Project Audience Intend to Address? Our focus is on collaborative, community-wide audience development initiatives. While we welcome representatives from individual music, theatre, dance, art and cultural organizations, representatives from those organizations should understand that conversations center on a community-wide initiative, and are not meant as a forum for discussing best practices on a company level. Membership in Project Audience is restricted to organizations with a serious interest in collaborative, community-wide (or larger) initiatives.
- Who Else Might Be Interested in Project Audience? We're interested in connecting with all kinds of organizations that share an interest in advancing the strategies, collaborations and technologies that promote audience development. We especially look forward to making connections with other arts & cultural grantmakers who may also be nurturing similar efforts.
- How Many People Should Participate Per-Organization? We suggest a limit of two (2) representatives per organization during this planning phase.
- What Will Result From This Effort? The Mellon Foundation expects, at the conclusion of this process, to receive a funding proposal for their consideration, for a collaborative, community-level project to implement what has been designed. Join us - and let's create something incredible & impactful!
